Thermal roof survey in Eastfields: what you get
What a thermal camera can show depends a lot on the weather. It’s useful to have a sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We’ll discuss the weather with you when booking, and the report explains how the conditions on the day affected the results. Common reasons to book are gaps in loft insulation and moisture around outlets and upstands, on pitched roof slopes, insulated roof spaces and commercial roofs.
In London’s terraces and conversions, roofs are packed close together, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. We take care to focus on the roof we have been asked to look at, in Eastfields as anywhere. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building when you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- A formal energy assessment
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Loft conversions
- Pitched roof slopes
- Commercial roofs
- Ceilings below the roof
- Flat roofs
- Insulated roof spaces
DIY checks: what’s safe
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the addresses.
Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed ahead of time. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, which helps when tenants work during the week.
What happens on the day
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely. Most surveys take between one and two hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is frequently on a shared landing. Where that is the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed

Airspace, weather and Eastfields roofs
With Southside House about 3.4 miles west, Eastfields sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
For an older house near a landmark such as St. Mark's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as St Mark's Church of England Academy, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Eastfields
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.
What we need to know
To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- What’s prompted the survey
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
We survey roofs seven days a week. To find a date that works for you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.
Do you need a thermal roof survey in Eastfields?
Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.
A survey can pick up problems like:
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
Parking in Eastfields, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day easier, as a space near the door can’t be promised.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- What they won’t be able to tell you
Common questions in Eastfields
Are there drone restrictions around Eastfields?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Eastfields?
In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot.
Which survey includes thermal imaging?
Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size.
Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?
No, not on its own. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. That is why we check any patterns with moisture readings.
How do I book a survey in Eastfields?
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
