Independent thermal roof surveys in Easton

The survey, step by step

Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit typically takes about one to two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Rural addresses near Easton can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

How to prepare

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Advice

Thermal roof survey in Easton

Wet insulation under a flat roof covering holds heat for longer than dry. That means a wet area can show up as a different temperature from the rest of the roof. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, something you cannot normally tell from the surface. Moisture readings are then used to check what the camera suggests. Typical surveys look at stains that keep coming back and cold spots on ceilings under the roof, across commercial roofs, loft conversions and pitched roof slopes.

Somewhere as small as Easton, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

What we’re asked to look at in Easton

Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are frequently invisible from outside. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.

Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Patches of heat loss across the roof
  • Leaks far from where the stain appears
  • Missing or slipped insulation
  • Damp around roof outlets and upstands

If you live in an older home near St. Agnes' Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What a roof survey includes

What this survey can’t tell you

It’s useful to know what a survey won’t do before booking:

  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • Confirming water without moisture readings

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Commercial roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Flat roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Pitched roof slopes

Surveys for landlords and agents in Easton

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Easton. To discuss a property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What happens if roof problems are left?

A damp patch that keeps coming back typically has a cause that hasn’t been found. Combining the camera with moisture readings can help find it, rather than more guesswork. In a place like Easton, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Thermal roof surveys around Easton

Easton lies within about 1 mile of the sea, and coastal wind can be strong. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. With Mottistone Manor about 4.2 miles east, Easton sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

Take a building like All Saints Church of England Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Easton is about 6 miles south of Lymington, in the Isle of Wight. We visit Easton as part of our work across the Isle of Wight. Easton is one of the places in the Isle of Wight we cover for thermal roof surveys. You can also see our page for Southampton.

Easton questions

Do you cover smaller places like Easton?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Is Easton in the area you cover?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and Easton is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a same-day report.

How do I arrange a thermal roof survey in Easton?

Simply call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.

How soon will I get the report?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.

Will the camera show exactly where the water is?

Not directly. It shows temperature, and wet materials frequently behave differently from dry ones. We confirm what it suggests with moisture readings.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed as you book.

How the survey changes by roof type

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Many single-ply and EPDM roofs sit on insulation boards. Wet boards can show as temperature differences on the images.

Pitched slate and tile roofs

From inside the loft, the camera can help with damp around chimneys, valleys and roof windows. We check any patterns with moisture readings.
