FAQs for Ventnor
Do you carry out roof surveys in Ventnor?
Yes, Ventnor is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just call 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Is Ventnor within the area you cover?
Yes, Ventnor is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so the freeholder or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
What happens next?
You receive the written report by email, with photographs and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
What’s in the report?
Written findings with photographs, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, in order of urgency where relevant. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?
It can help narrow down where water may be getting in. Water can travel under a covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help follow it. We combine it with a visual inspection and moisture readings because the camera cannot confirm water on its own.
About our thermal roof survey in Ventnor
What a thermal camera can show depends a lot on the weather. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We talk through the forecast as you book, and the report explains how the conditions on the day affected the results. If you’ve noticed leaks far from where the stain appears and stains that keep coming back, we can find out what’s behind it.
Around Ventnor, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What we do, step by step
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. After that, we check everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. A visit to Ventnor is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed beforehand. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Find any records of previous roof work
Getting a price

Tips that help
You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Make sure the loft can be reached safely
- Check outlets after heavy rain
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
Many people send the report to roofers, who can then quote for the areas shown. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.
Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.
Leave it or get it looked at?
A damp patch that keeps coming back usually has a cause that hasn’t been found. Combining the camera with moisture readings can help find it, instead of trying repair after repair. Blocked gutters on homes around Ventnor overflow and soak walls. It is easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You will know the price for your survey before booking.

Helping us price your survey

- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- The property’s address and postcode

Honest limits
A survey is a careful look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. Its limits include:
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Flat roofs
- Commercial roofs
- Ceilings below the roof
- Insulated roof spaces
- Loft conversions
- Pitched roof slopes
Should I look at the roof myself first?
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Thermal roof surveys in Ventnor: local notes
Ventnor lies within about 1 mile of the sea, and coastal wind can be strong. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. Ventnor has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half, and hotels, like offices and blocks of flats, often have flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.
If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St Catherine's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. For site and facilities teams at buildings like St Catherine's School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Rylstone Manor, about 2.6 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Ventnor. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.
