Wroxall Thermal Roof Survey
Need a thermal roof survey in Wroxall? We can help, with a written report you can act on. Book a weekday or weekend visit.
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Stains that keep coming back
When you need someone else
A survey is a careful look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:
- Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
- The condition of timbers we can’t see
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers

- Commercial roofs
- Ceilings below the roof
- Insulated roof spaces

- Flat roofs
Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Wroxall
Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. You also get a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day. There’s an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. We survey insulated roof spaces, commercial roofs and pitched roof slopes, and the problems we are asked to look at most are water getting in at parapets and stacks and damp around roof outlets and upstands.
Older buildings in small places like Wroxall may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Wroxall
Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Trapped moisture, missing insulation and hidden heat loss are three examples. Thermal imaging gives us another way to look for them.
Problems we come across often include:
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
Rylstone Manor, about 2.2 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wroxall. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- How soon the report will arrive
- Is VAT included in the price?
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
What happens on the day
A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe vantage point, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. It typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. For a village or hamlet like Wroxall, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Preparing for the visit
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
Book a survey
If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.
Advice
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Wroxall: your questions answered
Is Wroxall in the area you cover?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs.
Is Wroxall within the area you cover?
Yes, Wroxall is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
When does the report arrive?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
Conditions on the day affect the results. A sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air all help. Rain, wind and heavy cloud can weaken the patterns, so we talk through the forecast as you book.
What will the report tell me?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.
Different roofs, different checks
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
Felt and asphalt sit tight to the layers below, which often helps the camera pick up differences. We confirm any patterns with moisture readings.
Loft insulation
Insulation frequently gets moved during work in the loft. The camera can show where it no longer covers the ceiling.

Thermal roof surveys around Wroxall
The coast is about 2 miles or less from Wroxall, and wind off the sea can be strong. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. A number of the island’s villages keep thatched roofs on older buildings, and the whole island is open to sea air and wind. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Take a building like Wroxall Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Take an older house close to St John's Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
