Thermal imaging roof survey in Enstone, Oxfordshire
Independent thermal roof surveys in Enstone. More than 5,000 surveys completed across London and South East England.
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Cold areas below the roof
Common roof problems in Enstone
Cold rooms under a roof, or high heating bills, lead some people to ask about heat loss. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated roof areas can show up on the camera, especially when it is warm inside and cold outside.
People usually book a survey after spotting one of these:
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Water that travels before it shows
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Kenelm, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.
Choosing a roof surveyor

How a thermal roof survey works in Enstone
Flat roofs over extensions, garages, flats and commercial buildings are where thermal imaging often helps most. Patterns can suggest where water is trapped under the covering. Pitched roofs with slates or tiles are often harder to read, because of the air space beneath, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. If you’re worried about areas of a flat roof that may hold water and leaks that are hard to trace, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Older buildings in small places like Enstone may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later, like when you want to compare after future work.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Enstone
Will you come out to Enstone?
Yes. Enstone is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Is my home in Enstone listed or in a conservation area?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
What’s the best way to book?
To book, ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?
Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
Can I check my roof myself?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
How it works
You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Somewhere as small as Enstone, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- Find any records of previous roof work

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Enstone
Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If you look after a building such as Enstone Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
Enstone is about 9 miles north of Witney, in Oxfordshire. Whether the building in Enstone is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, the roof can be surveyed on a weekday or at the weekend. Our Oxfordshire coverage includes Enstone. You can also see our page for Oxford.

Practical tips
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
- Talk to us about the weather when booking
- Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
- Do not switch the heating off before the visit
If the images suggest moisture that can’t be confirmed, we will say what would help next, such as electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.
Check that loft insulation is laid evenly and hasn’t been pushed aside. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Enstone
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
