Thermal roof surveys near Fulking

How a thermal roof survey works in Fulking

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, so it’s easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. If you’ve noticed water that travels before it shows and patches of heat loss across the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

In a small place like Fulking, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The report does not just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

When to book a survey in Fulking

Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Knowing how much of the roof is affected helps decide between a local repair and more. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Leaks that are hard to trace
  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
  • Missing or slipped insulation
  • Damp that repairs haven’t cured

If you live in an older home near The Church of the Holy Trinity, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • What happens after the report arrives
  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • What experience they bring

What to expect from a roof survey

What you can safely check yourself

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Common questions in Fulking

How do I find out if my home in Fulking is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Is Fulking in the area you cover?

Yes, Fulking is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. You can call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a few details.

What insurance do you have?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?

On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. We explain what the images can and can’t tell you, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

What do I do with the report?

You will get the report by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where it’s applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

How it works

It’s useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere like Fulking needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Note where any stains or damp appear

Related advice

Different roofs, different checks

Parapets, valleys and junctions

When valley or parapet gutters overflow, water can get into walls and ceilings. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Thermal images of a pitched roof can still show heat loss patterns and some damp areas. We explain what can and can’t be read from them.

What happens if roof problems are left?

The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. In a small place like Fulking, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Honest limits

Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
