Thermal imaging roof survey in Portslade, West Sussex
Thermal roof surveys in Portslade and the rest of West Sussex. Surveys run on any day of the week.
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.
Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
How a thermal roof survey works in Portslade
Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves often show up as temperature differences. It works best when the building is heated and it is colder outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. It is not an energy rating or a heat loss calculation. We survey insulated roof spaces, ceilings below the roof and loft conversions, and the problems we are asked to look at most are water getting in at parapets and stacks and leaks that are hard to trace.
Older cottages and houses around Portslade may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.
It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

What we can’t see
No survey can tell you everything, and it is better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- Proving moisture from the images alone
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- A formal energy assessment
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

What a survey costs
Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- House, block, shop or office
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, with VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.
What we need to know
These details help when you get in touch:
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
Our phone lines are open seven days a week. For a price or to book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
Why act early in Portslade
Repeated repairs that don’t stop a leak are a sign the source hasn’t been traced. Combining the camera with moisture readings can help find it, instead of trying repair after repair. Arranging work in a smaller place like Portslade is easier with notice than in an emergency. A survey gives you that notice.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Questions from Portslade
Is Portslade within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
How do I find out if my home in Portslade is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Does the report include photos?
Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
What does the report include?
A written report with photographs, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to.
Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?
Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. The survey is not an energy rating or a heat loss calculation, but the images show where improvements may help.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
What we do, step by step
Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a report with photographs, sent to you by email. As for time on site, most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Being in a smaller place like Portslade doesn’t change how the visit works: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it’s safe. It is useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.
- You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
How to prepare
- Keep pets in another room
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
