Thermal imaging roof survey in Green Street, East Sussex

- Damp patches with no obvious cause
Why act early in Green Street
A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. The camera can point to gaps and thin areas in the insulation, so improvements can go where they’re needed. Older cottages and farmhouses around Green Street can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

About our thermal roof survey in Green Street
Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. To book, just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. We survey commercial roofs, flat roofs and loft conversions, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are damp around chimneys and parapets and heat escaping through the roof.
Somewhere as small as Green Street, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.
What happens on the day
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. After that, we check everything we can see safely. Most surveys take between one and two hours for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Somewhere like Green Street needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
- You get a report with thermal images, photographs and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- Check pets are kept safely away
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

What else we do in Green Street
Green Street questions
Is my home in Green Street listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Will you come out to Green Street?
Yes, Green Street is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
How much does a thermal roof survey cost?
Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size.
When does the report arrive?
Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know when booking.
Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?
It’s a useful tool for tracing leaks, but not the only one. The results depend on conditions on the day. Where it can’t be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, such as electronic leak detection.
Does someone need to be in?
Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Airspace, weather and Green Street roofs
Green Street is within about 3 miles of the coast. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Priory Meadow Shopping Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. Anyone responsible for a site like Crowhurst CofE Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Durhamford Manor lies about 4.4 miles north, so building around Green Street goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.
Green Street is about 2 miles west of Hastings, in East Sussex. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in Green Street can all book thermal roof surveys, with a written report and photographs every time. Our area takes in places right across East Sussex. Different roofs, different checks
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
On big single-ply roofs, the camera helps show where to take readings. That makes the survey more focused.
Loft insulation
The difference is clearest when the home is heated and it’s cold out. We explain in the report how the conditions on the day affected what we saw.
Practical tips
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:
- File the images with your roof records
- Talk to us about the weather when booking
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
You can pass the report to a roofer so they can see where the problem areas seem to be. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.
Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Gaps frequently appear after work in the loft.
Can I check my roof myself?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
