Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hale Street

What a thermal camera can show depends a lot on the weather. It helps to have a sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air. Rain, a strong wind or heavy cloud can make the images less clear. We talk through the forecast when booking, and our report notes the conditions and how they affected what we saw. We survey flat roofs, ceilings below the roof and insulated roof spaces, and the problems we are asked to look at most are wet insulation beneath the membrane and stains that keep coming back.

Some older homes in villages like Hale Street are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

What this survey can’t tell you

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • An energy rating for the building
  • The condition of timbers we cannot see
  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.

What affects the price in Hale Street

Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • How big the roof is
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Height and safe access

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

What to let us know when you get in touch

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • What made you get in touch

What you can safely check yourself

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the addresses.

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.

What happens on the day

A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It normally takes about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Rural addresses near Hale Street can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Keep pets in another room
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

Thermal roof surveys around Hale Street

If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. About 4.4 miles north-west lies Old Soar Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Hale Street has been built on. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of the Holy Trinity, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as East Peckham Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Hale Street: your questions answered

Do you cover Hale Street?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, and Hale Street is part of that. You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details.

Is Hale Street within the area you cover?

Yes, Hale Street is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Which survey includes thermal imaging?

It is part of the Premium Survey, from £400. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.

When does the report arrive?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. We look from the loft as well, where there’s safe access.

Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?

It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

Roof by roof

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Single-ply PVC, TPO and EPDM roofs are frequently laid over insulation boards. If water gets under them, thermal imaging can suggest which boards are wet.

Loft insulation

In the loft space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We inspect the loft where it can be reached safely.
