Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Hangleton
Is Hangleton in the area you cover?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Will you come out to Hangleton?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
What do I do with the report?
The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we also look from the loft where it’s safe.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?
It records surface temperature across the roof. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, and we check them with moisture readings.
Thermal roof survey in Hangleton
A thermal survey isn’t a quick fix for every roof problem. Sun, shade, reflective surfaces and wind can all change what the camera shows. We back up the images with moisture readings and a careful look at the roof. The report is clear about what the images show and what they do not. If a finding can’t be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. If you are worried about gaps in loft insulation and patches of heat loss across the roof, we can find out what’s behind it.
In a village or hamlet like Hangleton, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
It isn’t only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

What we cannot see
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Proving moisture from the images alone
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Loft conversions
- Commercial roofs
- Flat roofs
- Insulated roof spaces
- Ceilings below the roof
- Pitched roof slopes
What we do, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Rural addresses near Hangleton can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before the survey
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
How to book
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Advice
Thermal roof surveys in Hangleton: local notes
The coast is about 2 miles or less from Hangleton, and wind off the sea can be strong. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
Ecclesden Manor, about 0.9 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Hangleton. For older roofs nearby, a look by drone or thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near St Andrew's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Why act early in Hangleton
Wet insulation under a flat roof doesn’t dry out on its own while the covering stays on. Over time, it insulates less well and can harm the deck. Finding the wet areas sooner keeps the work smaller. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.

Tips from our surveys
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
- Leave the roof to people with safe access
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- File the images with your roof records
If the images suggest moisture that can’t be confirmed, we will say what would help next, for instance electronic leak detection or a roofer opening up a small section.
Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water doesn’t sit on the roof. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.
What else we do in Hangleton
Roof by roof
Loft insulation
From inside the loft, thermal imaging can show gaps in insulation and cold spots. We look where there is safe access.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Water often gets in where roofs meet walls, parapets or valley gutters. The camera can help show damp around these junctions.
Do you need a thermal roof survey in Hangleton?
Some owners book because the rooms under the roof feel cold. Missing or slipped insulation can stand out as temperature differences, particularly when it’s warm inside and cold outside.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Water that travels before it shows
- Heat escaping through the roof
Anyone responsible for a site like Ferring CofE Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- What experience they bring
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
