Drone roof survey in Hangleton

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. We survey large and complex roofs, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and people most often book us about moss and weeds taking hold up top and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.

Older buildings in small places like Hangleton may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Hangleton: your questions answered

Will you come out to Hangleton?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Are there drone restrictions around Hangleton?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions aren’t right, we’ll talk to you about another date.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when booking.

Will I get photos?

Yes. Photos are part of every report.

How it works

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Around Hangleton, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Tips that help

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:

  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.

Keep the roof space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Make sure insulation does not block the airflow.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

No survey can tell you everything, and it is better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks

Why act early in Hangleton

On a tall building, problems are frequently found only when water comes in. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. In a place like Hangleton, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking.

How the survey changes by roof type

Large commercial roofs

Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Hangleton

We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos.

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.

Drone roof surveys around Hangleton

Hangleton is within about 2 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

If you look after a building such as Ferring CofE Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. If you live in an older home near St Andrew's Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. With Ecclesden Manor about 0.9 miles north-west, the area around Hangleton has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.
