About our drone roof survey in West Kingston
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it is not safe. We survey tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters, and the problems we are asked to look at most are loose ridge and hip tiles and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots.
Villages like West Kingston often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

When to book a survey in West Kingston
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. We fly from the ground and bring the camera close to the roof.
Look out for signs like these:
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
The streets around a church like St Andrew's Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- What insurance they carry
- What experience they bring
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
West Kingston: your questions answered
Are there drone restrictions around West Kingston?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Will you come out to West Kingston?
Yes. West Kingston is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
What does the report include?
Written findings with photographs, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, by urgency where it matters. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
How fast do I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We check everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.
Will you check the loft?
Where it’s relevant to the survey and there’s safe access, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.
Checking the roof from the ground
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
What a drone roof survey looks like in West Kingston
West Kingston is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
If you look after a building such as East Preston Infant School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Ecclesden Manor, about 1.7 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around West Kingston. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.
West Kingston is about 3 miles east of Littlehampton, in West Sussex. In West Kingston, as across West Sussex, every roof gets the same careful survey. West Kingston is one of the towns and villages in West Sussex where we work for drone roof surveys. Brighton is in our area too.

Within a short drive, we also cover Worthing (3 miles north-east), Bognor Regis (10 miles west), Chichester (14 miles west), Selsey (15 miles west), Littlehampton (3 miles west) and Shoreham-by-Sea (9 miles east).

How the survey changes by roof type
Ridges and hips
Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
Large commercial roofs
Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.

What happens on the day
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours for a house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. You are welcome to ask questions while we’re there. In a small place like West Kingston, access is usually the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.

Before we arrive

Advice
Tips that help
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.
Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the survey around it.
