Drone roof survey in East Preston

Drone roof surveys are available in East Preston and throughout London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. We are often asked to look into ridge and hip pieces working loose and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, on fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.

Around East Preston, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.

Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Different roofs, different checks

Steep slate and tile slopes

Widespread slipping on slate usually means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.

What you can safely check yourself

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Honest limits

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

East Preston: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like East Preston?

Yes. East Preston is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is my home in East Preston listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?

No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but not the loft or the underside. Where there’s safe access, we check the roof space from inside.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We carry out surveys seven days a week. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We note visible signs like sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Are you registered with the CAA?

Yes, we are. Our Flyer ID and Operator ID come from the CAA, and the drone itself is under 250g.

What we do, step by step

We’ll ask a few questions first, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Parking around East Preston is typically easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at

What affects the price in East Preston

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Which survey package you book

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Helping us price your survey

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date

We confirm the exact price before booking, so you know the cost up front. Our price is from £400, including VAT. To book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Common roof problems in East Preston

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. We fly from ground level and bring the camera close to the roof.

People normally book a survey after spotting one of these:

  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack

Historic houses such as Ecclesden Manor, about 1.3 miles north, show how far back building around East Preston goes. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • What insurance they carry
  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA

What a good roof survey covers

Drone roof surveys in East Preston: local notes

East Preston is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

Anyone responsible for a site like East Preston Infant School will know that big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of St Mary, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
