Drone roof survey in West Preston
We carry out drone roof surveys in West Preston and across London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. We survey tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are plant growth and moss on the roof and ridge pieces that have lifted.
In smaller places like West Preston, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. The parts you cannot see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for instance when you want to check whether anything has changed.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- The roof’s overall size
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.
What we need to know
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- The kind of building and roof involved
- The property’s address and postcode
Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
How the survey works
We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a survey in West Preston, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Related advice
How the survey changes by roof type
Chimney stacks
Our drone check of a chimney is visual, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we will tell you.
Large commercial roofs
Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.

Landlords, agents and block managers in West Preston
If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the addresses.
Landlords and agents in West Preston book surveys as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
DIY checks: what’s safe
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Airspace, weather and West Preston roofs
West Preston is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
Take an older house close to The Parish Church of St Mary: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Historic houses such as Ecclesden Manor, about 1.6 miles north-east, show how far back building around West Preston goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself. Anyone responsible for a site like Georgian Gardens Community Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Useful tips for West Preston property owners
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that is not clear.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Check insulation doesn’t block the airflow.
Questions from West Preston
Do you cover smaller places like West Preston?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Is my home in West Preston listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Does someone need to be in?
Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
What if my home is near an airport?
Flight restriction zones around protected airports need permission from the airport or air traffic control before any flight. We check your address and ask for permission where it’s required. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in West Preston?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included.
Will you photograph next door’s garden?
We take care around neighbouring homes. We photograph your roof, not your neighbours’ property. Letting neighbours know beforehand helps.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.
