Thermal Roof Survey in Kitwood
Thermal roof surveys across Kitwood, backed by more than 20 years’ experience. You get a clear report with photos.
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
How a thermal roof survey works in Kitwood
Flat roofs over extensions, garages, flats and commercial buildings are where thermal imaging frequently helps most. It can show patterns that point to trapped moisture under the membrane. Pitched roofs with slates or tiles are frequently harder to read, because of the air space beneath, so we combine the camera with an inspection from the loft where there’s safe access. We survey insulated roof spaces, flat roofs and commercial roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are missing or slipped insulation and stains that keep coming back.
In a village or hamlet like Kitwood, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Drones, thermal imaging and Kitwood roofs
If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
Take a building like Four Marks Church of England Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Bentworth Hall lies about 3.8 miles north, so building around Kitwood goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
Kitwood is about 5 miles south-west of Alton, in Hampshire. Wherever you are in Kitwood, we can come and survey your property. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire, large and small. Southampton is in our area too.
All of SO24 is covered for thermal roof surveys. We also cover Gilbert Street (1 mile south-west), Charlwood (1 mile south-east), North Street (1 mile west), Monkwood (2 miles south) and Ropley (2 miles south-west). We also work in nearby towns like Basingstoke (12 miles north), Winchester (12 miles west), Fleet (15 miles north-east), Horndean (13 miles south), Alton (5 miles north-east) and Waterlooville (14 miles south).

What we can’t see
To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Kitwood
Do you carry out roof surveys in Kitwood?
Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and Kitwood is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details.
Do you cover smaller places like Kitwood?
Yes, Kitwood is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it is applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
How much does a thermal roof survey cost?
It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a same-day report.
Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?
Not directly. It shows temperature, and wet materials often behave differently from dry ones. That is why we check any patterns with moisture readings.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that ahead of time, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
What a survey costs
We confirm the price for your survey before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- Which survey package you book
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.
What we need to know
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
Not sure which survey you need? It’s easiest to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will talk you through the options and what they cost.
Do you need a thermal roof survey in Kitwood?
Some owners book because the rooms under the roof feel cold. Missing or slipped insulation can stand out as temperature differences, especially when it is warm inside and cold outside.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Stains that keep coming back
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
Take an older house close to Church of the Good Shepherd: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- What follow-up you get after the report
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- Will the report include photos?
Different roofs, different checks
GRP fibreglass roofs
Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. Thermal imaging can suggest where that may be happening.
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
Water under felt or asphalt can stay hidden for years. Thermal imaging helps suggest where it is, given suitable conditions on the day.
DIY checks: what’s safe
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
How it works
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. In a small place like Kitwood, access is normally the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Getting ready for the survey
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
