What we do, step by step

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. In a small place like Loosley Row, access is usually the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

About our thermal roof survey in Loosley Row

Our thermal survey records how the surface temperature varies across your roof. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or places where heat is getting out. It is important to know that the camera shows temperature, not water, so we check what it shows with moisture readings. It comes as part of our Premium Survey, from £400. Conditions on the day affect the results, and the report explains how. If you’re worried about thin or uneven insulation in the roof and moisture around outlets and upstands, we can find out what’s behind it.

In a small place like Loosley Row, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Thermal roof surveys in Loosley Row: local notes

If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. West Wycombe Park House, about 3.9 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Loosley Row. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

If you look after a building like St John's Church of England Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Take an older house close to Church of St John the Evangelist: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Loosley Row is about 6 miles north-west of High Wycombe, in Buckinghamshire. We survey roofs in Loosley Row and the rest of Buckinghamshire. We cover towns and villages across Buckinghamshire, from the larger towns to small villages. There is also a page for Reading.

All of HP27 is covered for thermal roof surveys. Whether your property is on Loosley Hill, Foundry Lane and Lower Road or anywhere close by, we can help. Other places close to Loosley Row include Lacey Green (1 mile east), Saunderton Lee (1 mile south-west), Saunderton (1 mile south), Rout's Green (2 miles south-west) and Bledlow Ridge (2 miles south-west). Why it is worth a survey now in Loosley Row

Trapped water can harm decks, timbers and ceilings the longer it stays. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. In a place like Loosley Row, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

What we look for on each type of roof

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Problems where roof slopes and walls meet are frequently hidden. We combine a close visual check with the thermal images.

GRP fibreglass roofs

Cracks in GRP can let water into the boards beneath. We look at cracks by eye and use the images to see whether there is a pattern around them.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Loosley Row

Do you cover Loosley Row?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Loosley Row as anywhere else.

How do I find out if my home in Loosley Row is listed?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?

On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. We explain what the images can and cannot tell you, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.

Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?

The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the report shows where to look more closely.

Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?

The camera doesn’t see water itself. Because wet insulation holds heat for longer, it can show as a different temperature, but we check each finding with moisture readings.

How long will you be at the property?

Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. You will then get the report by email.

What you can safely check yourself

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

What this survey can’t tell you

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:

  • Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • Proving moisture from the images alone

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

What we look at

  • Commercial roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Flat roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions
