Gutter Survey in Loosley Row
We take a careful look at the gutter at your property in Loosley Row, and put it all in a report with photos.
- Overflowing eaves gutters
- Overflowing valley or parapet gutters
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
What this survey can’t tell you
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:
- The inside of buried drains

- Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards

Gutter survey in Loosley Row: what you get
Owners get in touch after seeing an overflow, finding damp or planning ahead for winter. Landlords and managing agents use it to plan maintenance, and some buyers want the rainwater system checked before exchange. Whoever books, we inspect and report in the same way with photos and clear recommendations. We survey on weekdays and at weekends. We survey eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias and soffits, and people most often book us about overflowing valley or parapet gutters and sagging gutters and loose brackets.
Older buildings in small places like Loosley Row may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials like clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.
The report is written in plain words, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, and recommendations are put in order of urgency where relevant.

Why get it checked now?
A dripping joint or sagging bracket will not get better on its own. Every downpour adds to the damage, on walls, timber and sometimes inside. A survey now tells you what needs doing and how urgent it is. Outbuildings and barns around Loosley Row are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Loosley Row questions
Is my home in Loosley Row listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Will you come out to Loosley Row?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.
What happens next?
The report comes by email, and you decide the next step: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
Do you look in the roof space?
If it is needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement.
Are you insured?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it is applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
How it works
The visit has one job: to see as much of the gutter as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It typically takes between one and two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. For a village or hamlet like Loosley Row, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, like damp or overflowing gutters.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are looked at from ground level and windows.
- We look at hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Find any records of previous roof work

Advice
Loosley Row homes and their roofs
Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. Historic houses such as West Wycombe Park House, about 3.9 miles south, show how far back building in the area around Loosley Row goes. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Landlords with a home close to Saunderton station may find that the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. The streets around a church like Church of St John the Evangelist are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. Anyone responsible for a site like St John's Church of England Primary School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.

Different roofs, different checks
Lead-lined valley and parapet gutters
We check the lining, the joints and the outlets where it is safe to see them. Lead is also a target for theft.
Fascias and soffits
Most gutters are fixed to the fascia, so rot in the boards can loosen the whole run. Damaged or stained boards are recorded.
How we price gutter surveys
Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. The price for your roof depends on:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Which survey package you book
- How big the roof is
- Building height and the viewpoints available
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
