Airspace, weather and Marsh Green roofs
Marsh Green is within about 1 mile of the coast. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Brighstone Church of England Aided Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Take an older house close to St. Mary's Church: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Historic houses like Mottistone Manor, about 1.5 miles north-west, show how far back building around Marsh Green goes. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

Thermal roof survey in Marsh Green: what you get
Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photographs, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We survey insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are cold spots on ceilings under the roof and damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys.
In a small place like Marsh Green, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What we can’t see
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:
- A formal energy assessment
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Insulated roof spaces
- Loft conversions
- Flat roofs
- Commercial roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Ceilings below the roof
The survey, step by step
The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Older roofs in small places like Marsh Green can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Before the survey
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Landlord and commercial surveys in Marsh Green
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer.
How we price thermal roof surveys
Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Which survey package you book
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, which starts from £400, including VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.
What to let us know when you get in touch
We’ll normally ask about:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Anything about access we should know
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or email us when you are ready.
Roof by roof
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
Water under felt or asphalt can stay hidden for years. Thermal imaging helps suggest where it is, when the conditions allow.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
On larger commercial single-ply roofs, thermal imaging can help target moisture readings. That makes the survey more focused.
Practical tips
Small things make a difference. Some pointers:
- Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
- File the images with your roof records
- Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, so you can go through the images with us. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.
Watch for new damp patches on ceilings beneath the roof. Catching a leak early stops insulation getting soaked.
