Thermal Roof Survey in North Ascot
Find out what’s going on with the roof before you spend money on it. Thermal roof surveys in North Ascot.
- Cold areas below the roof
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in North Ascot
Thermal imaging is useful when a damp patch has no clear cause. Water can travel some distance under a roof covering before it shows inside, and the camera can show patterns that help us follow it. The images are used alongside a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. Common reasons to book are missing or slipped insulation and damp that repairs haven’t cured, on insulated roof spaces, flat roofs and ceilings below the roof.
Around North Ascot, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Can I check my roof myself?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
What we look for on each type of roof
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. We use the camera and moisture readings to help follow it.
GRP fibreglass roofs
GRP surfaces can be shiny, which affects thermal readings. We take that into account and check findings with moisture readings.
Why it’s worth a survey now in North Ascot
Before replacing a large flat roof, it’s useful to know how much of it is actually wet. Thermal imaging, checked with moisture readings, gives a clearer picture before you commit. Homes in smaller places like North Ascot can face more weather, so a loose ridge or verge soon lets rain in. Each storm lifts it a little further, and water follows.
One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What we look at
- Insulated roof spaces
- Ceilings below the roof
- Flat roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Loft conversions
- Commercial roofs
What happens on the day
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photographs go into the written report. It typically takes an hour or two for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to North Ascot is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Getting ready for the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Airspace, weather and North Ascot roofs
Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. St Leonard's Hill, about 3.9 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around North Ascot. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Anyone responsible for a site like Ascot Heath Church of England Junior School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. The streets around a church like Chapel of St Mary and St John are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

When to book a survey in North Ascot
Some owners book because the rooms under the roof feel cold. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated roof areas can show up on the camera, particularly when there is a clear difference between inside and outside.
Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Water that travels before it shows
- Gaps in loft insulation
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
If you run a business near The Lexicon, big, flat commercial roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help most.

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
How much does a thermal roof survey cost?
Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a same-day report.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details when you book.
Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?
It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. We look from the loft as well, where there’s safe access.
