Ascot Thermal Roof Survey
We carry out thermal roof surveys in Ascot and the rest of Windsor and Maidenhead. Surveys run seven days a week.
- Cold areas below the roof
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
Landlords, agents and block managers in Ascot
Landlords, agents and building managers in Ascot and across Windsor and Maidenhead can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when booking and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Thermal roof survey in Ascot: what you get
Thermal imaging is a useful tool, but it has limits. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. That is why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. Where something cannot be confirmed, we say what would help next. We survey insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and ceilings below the roof, and people most frequently book us about cold areas below the roof and water that travels before it shows.
Some older homes in villages like Ascot are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Airspace, weather and Ascot roofs
Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. With St Leonard's Hill about 4.1 miles north, Ascot sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If you run a business near The Lexicon, large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager. Take a building like South Ascot Village Primary School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. The streets around a church like Church of All Souls are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.
Ascot is about 4 miles east of Bracknell, in Windsor and Maidenhead. From houses to flats and shops in Ascot, the roof can be surveyed on a weekday or at the weekend. Our area takes in places right across Windsor and Maidenhead. We also survey roofs in Guildford.
All of SL5 is covered for thermal roof surveys, from the main roads to the quietest streets. If you need a thermal roof survey at a property on London Road, High Street and St George's Lane or a nearby road, we can survey it. Nearby, we also carry out thermal roof surveys in Sunninghill (1 mile south-east), Cheapside (1 mile north-east), North Ascot (1 mile north-west), Brookside (1 mile north-west) and Beggar's Bush (1 mile east). Within a short drive, we also cover Maidenhead (8 miles north), Windsor (5 miles north), Boyn Hill (8 miles north-west), Cookham (11 miles north), Furze Platt (9 miles north) and Dedworth (5 miles north).

Well-known places in the area include The Lexicon (3.6 miles west) and Heatherwood Hospital (0.8 miles west). For a walk, there is Virginia Water Lake and Gracious Pond.

What happens if roof problems are left?
Once insulation under a membrane is wet, it tends to stay wet. Over time, it insulates less well and can harm the deck. Finding the wet areas sooner keeps the work smaller. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Ascot, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

What affects the price in Ascot
Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. The price for your roof depends on:
- Which survey package you book
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Common questions in Ascot
Do you carry out roof surveys in Ascot?
Yes, Ascot is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs.
Is Ascot within the area you cover?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?
A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat loss. Findings are checked with moisture readings.
Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?
It can help narrow down where water may be getting in. Patterns can suggest where trapped water has spread. It’s used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings because the camera cannot confirm water on its own.
What’s the best way to book?
Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.
What insurance do you have?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
It is part of the Premium Survey, from £400. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.
How it works
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes between one and two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. Somewhere as small as Ascot, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- We check the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Advice
Practical tips
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Don’t switch the heating off before the visit
- Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
- Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
- Check outlets after heavy rain
The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. It helps you judge how firm each finding is.
Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof in suitable weather.
Checking the roof from ground level
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
