Ascot: your questions answered
Will you come out to Ascot?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Is drone flying allowed in Ascot?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
How soon will I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
What insurance do you have?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.
What happens after the survey?
The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
Will I get photos?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding.
About our drone roof survey in Ascot
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission isn’t given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you are worried about plant growth and moss on the roof and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters alike.
Some older homes in villages like Ascot are listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

Flying and imaging in Ascot
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
If you live in an older home near Church of All Souls, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Anyone responsible for a site like South Ascot Village Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near The Lexicon, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.
Ascot is about 4 miles east of Bracknell, in Windsor and Maidenhead. Ascot gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a proper look at everything that’s safely in view, photographs and a clear written report. Across Windsor and Maidenhead, we cover Ascot. We also survey roofs in Guildford.
Here we cover the SL5 postcode area for drone roof surveys. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on London Road, High Street and St George's Lane or anywhere close by, we can help. Other places close to Ascot include Sunninghill (1 mile south-east), Cheapside (1 mile north-east), North Ascot (1 mile north-west), Brookside (1 mile north-west) and Beggar's Bush (1 mile east). Larger places within reach include Maidenhead (8 miles north), Windsor (5 miles north), Boyn Hill (8 miles north-west), Cookham (11 miles north), Furze Platt (9 miles north) and Dedworth (5 miles north).
Around Ascot
We work in homes and buildings around Papplewick School, Silwood Park and Charters School. There is a railway station in Ascot itself: Ascot station. Well-known places in the area include The Lexicon (3.6 miles west) and Heatherwood Hospital (0.8 miles west). The countryside around Ascot includes Virginia Water Lake and Gracious Pond.
Why get it checked now?
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:
- Flights in strong wind or a downpour
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Close-up photos of next door’s property

What we check
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
Before and after the survey
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
- Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Check the loft can be reached
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
How the survey changes by roof type
Valleys and parapet gutters
Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.
Ridges and hips
Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.
What we do, step by step
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Ascot, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
