Independent drone roof surveys in Sunninghill

About our drone roof survey in Sunninghill

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it’s worth letting them know about the visit. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are chimney tops in poor condition and moss building up on slopes and in gutters.

Places like Sunninghill can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.

Drones, thermal imaging and Sunninghill roofs

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.

With St Leonard's Hill about 4.6 miles north, the area around Sunninghill has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. Take a building like St Michael's CofE Primary School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. Take an older house close to Church of St Michael and All Angels: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Practical tips

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:

  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Let us know the exact address as you book
  • Book early if you are near an airport
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, particularly in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

FAQs for Sunninghill

Is Sunninghill within the area you cover?

Yes, Sunninghill is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

How do I find out if my home in Sunninghill is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

When does the report arrive?

Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, tell us when booking.

Will the drone film my neighbours?

No, the camera is kept on your roof. Next door’s windows and gardens are kept out of shot as far as possible. A quick word with the neighbours is a good idea.

Does the report include photos?

Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when booking.

Are you registered with the CAA?

Yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We fly a sub-250g drone and keep it in sight at all times.

Why act early in Sunninghill

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. Blocked gutters on homes around Sunninghill overflow and soak walls, especially where trees overhang. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.

There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

Take a look at how roof surveys are priced or what we found on two real jobs.

The survey, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Parking around Sunninghill is typically easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before we arrive

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Advice

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, which starts from £400, including VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

What we need to know

When you call or email, these details help:

  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Anything about access we should know
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • What’s prompted the survey

We survey roofs on any day of the week. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will recommend the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
