Drone roof surveys in Cheapside and the rest of Windsor and Maidenhead. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Standing water on a flat roof

Need a drone roof survey in Cheapside?

What you can safely check yourself

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Cheapside

Drones need reasonable weather. Strong wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we will talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are moss building up on slopes and in gutters and ridge pieces that have lifted.

Older buildings in small places like Cheapside may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Cheapside

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Take an older house close to Church of St Michael and All Angels: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Cheapside CofE Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

When you need someone else

Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.

Roofs we survey in Cheapside

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs

Before and after the survey

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone

The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.

Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where applicable. The survey normally takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a small place like Cheapside, access is typically the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before the survey

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent
  • Tell us about parking before the day
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Roof by roof

Chimney stacks

The top of a stack is usually out of view. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Large commercial roofs

Fragile roof sheets and roof lights can be dangerous to walk on. A drone keeps everyone off them.

Cheapside: your questions answered

Is Cheapside within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Are there drone restrictions around Cheapside?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.

How do I book a survey in Cheapside?

Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

How long will you be at the property?

Most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The report follows by email.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so the freeholder or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we are given access to.

How experienced are you?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of customers are satisfied.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Cheapside

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Wind damage high on the roof
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters

St Leonard's Hill lies about 3.4 miles north, so building around Cheapside goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
