Chimney survey in Ascot
Many homes have chimneys that are no longer used. A disused stack still needs looking after. If it has been capped without ventilation, damp can build up inside it. We check how redundant stacks have been capped and look for damp in the chimney breasts. You get photos of each stack and our recommendations. Common reasons to book are unused flues sealed without airflow and a stack that appears to lean, on lead flashings, shared and party-wall stacks and chimney breasts.
In a small place like Ascot, many roofs stand in the open, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are frequently where weather gets in first.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

What else we do in Ascot
What happens if roof problems are left?
Damp in a chimney breast usually gets worse while the cause is left. It can spoil decoration and plaster. Finding the cause means the right work can be planned. Older and listed buildings around Ascot may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
What you get with us

- 20+ years’ experience

How we price chimney surveys
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.
What to let us know when you contact us
What helps most when you contact us:
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
To get a price for chimney surveys in Ascot, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. A few details about the property and the roof help us price the survey accurately.
How the survey works
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. The whole visit usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, a little longer where there are several stacks. Somewhere like Ascot needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- First we talk through the stacks, their history and any problems.
- We look at every stack from wherever it can be seen safely.
- We photograph and record the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.
- Inside, the chimney breasts and the loft are checked for damp where there’s access.
- You get a written report with photos and recommendations by email.
Before we arrive
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Let us know about parking before the day
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Questions from Ascot
Can a landlord with a rental near Ascot station book a roof survey?
Yes, that is a common request. We just need to know who will give access, and we can send the report to you or your agent.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Ascot?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
How do I book a survey in Ascot?
The quickest way is to phone 07833 053749 or email us. Give us the address and a few details about the roof. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Are you insured?
We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.
Signs you need a chimney survey in Ascot
Lots of homes have redundant stacks. If a stack is capped or blocked without ventilation, moisture can build up inside. Damp patches can appear on chimney breasts even when nothing is leaking.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Cracked or missing flaunching
- Damp patches on chimney breasts
- A stack that appears to lean
- Spalled or crumbling bricks
Take a building like South Ascot Village Primary School: a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.
What to check before booking
- How long the report takes to arrive
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- What insurance they carry
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
Can I check my roof myself?
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Chimney surveys in Ascot: local notes
The wider area around Ascot has a long history of building, with St Leonard's Hill about 4.1 miles north. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.
Trees in and around Silwood Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. The streets around a church such as Church of All Souls are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.
