Need a thermal roof survey in North Weston?

North Weston: your questions answered

Does a conservation area affect roof work in North Weston?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do you carry out roof surveys in North Weston?

Yes, North Weston is within the area we cover. We work right across London and the South East. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.

How soon will I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?

It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. It shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. We look from the loft as well, where there’s safe access.

Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?

Not directly. It shows temperature, and wet materials often behave differently from dry ones. We confirm what it suggests with moisture readings.

Thermal roof survey in North Weston

Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. You can ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. Typical surveys look at possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and leaks far from where the stain appears, across loft conversions, insulated roof spaces and flat roofs.

Somewhere as small as North Weston, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

Tips that help

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Make sure the loft can be reached safely
  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
  • Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing

You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, so you can go through the images with us. There’s a 12-month follow-up too.

Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Early action keeps insulation from staying wet.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Before replacing a large flat roof, it helps to know how much of it is actually wet. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you commit. Outbuildings and barns around North Weston are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, access and which survey you book.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Drones, thermal imaging and North Weston roofs

If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Historic houses such as Adwell House, about 3.9 miles south, show how far back building in the area around North Weston goes. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

Anyone responsible for a site like Lord Williams's School will know that big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

What happens on the day

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. In total, it takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Somewhere like North Weston needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

How the survey changes by roof type

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below often show. Shiny surfaces can reflect heat, so we take care reading the images.

GRP fibreglass roofs

Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. The camera can help show where to look.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in North Weston

After a long-running leak, insulation under a flat roof can stay wet. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. A thermal survey, checked with moisture readings, can give a much clearer picture.

People normally book a survey when they’ve noticed something like this:

  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Water that travels before it shows
  • Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
  • Wet areas near outlets and upstands

For an older house near a landmark such as Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
