Independent thermal roof surveys in Nursted

What we are asked to look at in Nursted

Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. A thermal survey, checked with moisture readings, can give a much clearer picture.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
  • Leaks that are hard to trace
  • Missing or slipped insulation
  • Patches of heat loss across the roof

Take a building like The Petersfield School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What to check before booking

  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • Their insurance cover
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price

What’s in a roof survey

Thermal roof survey in Nursted: what you get

What a thermal camera can show depends a lot on the weather. It’s useful to have a sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air. Rain, a strong wind or heavy cloud can make the images less clear. We will discuss the weather with you when booking, and our report notes the conditions and how they affected what we saw. We are frequently asked to look into stains that keep coming back and patches of heat loss across the roof, on loft conversions, pitched roof slopes and ceilings below the roof.

In a village or hamlet like Nursted, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What happens if roof problems are left?

The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Looking now, while the damage may still be limited, keeps more options open. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Nursted, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

What this survey can’t tell you

We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
  • Confirming water without moisture readings
  • An energy rating for the building

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

What we check

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Nursted

A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

Historic houses such as Uppark, about 2.5 miles south-east, show how far back building around Nursted goes. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

Nursted is about 2 miles south-east of Petersfield, in Hampshire. We provide thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Nursted. Nursted is one of the towns and villages in Hampshire where we work for thermal roof surveys. Portsmouth is in our area too.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Nursted

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the addresses.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Tell us about it when you book and we will plan the survey around it.

How it works

You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Somewhere as small as Nursted, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We look at the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. You get a report with thermal images, photographs and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Nursted

Is Nursted within the area you cover?

Yes. Nursted is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Nursted?

Yes, Nursted is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Nursted as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details when you book.

What will the report tell me?

A photo-illustrated written report, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, in order of urgency where relevant. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it’s colder outside. We look from the loft as well, where there is safe access.

Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?

It’s a useful tool for tracing leaks, but not the only one. The results depend on conditions on the day. Where it can’t be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, such as electronic leak detection.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only if it’s safe. We inspect what can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

What we need to know

There is no need for technical words. Just tell us:

  • The address and postcode of the property
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
