Thermal roof survey in Forestside

Thermal imaging works best in the right conditions. It helps to have a sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We will discuss the weather with you when booking, and the report explains how the conditions on the day affected the results. We are frequently asked to look into wet insulation beneath the membrane and damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys, on commercial roofs, ceilings below the roof and flat roofs.

In a small place like Forestside, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Common questions in Forestside

Is Forestside in the area you cover?

Yes, Forestside is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.

Do you cover smaller places like Forestside?

Yes. Forestside is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Are you insured?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

What happens after the survey?

You’ll receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable.

Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?

Thermal imaging can help, alongside other checks. The results depend on conditions on the day. If the source can’t be confirmed, we’ll say what could help next, such as electronic leak detection.

Different roofs, different checks

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below frequently show. Reflections from shiny surfaces can affect readings, which we allow for.

GRP fibreglass roofs

Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. The camera can help show where to look.

What this survey cannot tell you

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • An energy rating for the building
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
  • Proving moisture from the images alone

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Commercial roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:

  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Height and safe access
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical words. It’s enough to tell us:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Thermal roof surveys in Forestside: local notes

Forestside is within about 5 miles of the coast, and wind off the sea can be strong. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Uppark lies about 3.2 miles north, so building around Forestside goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. For an older house near a landmark such as Christ Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Forestside is about 4 miles east of Horndean, in Hampshire. We carry out thermal roof surveys for householders, landlords and businesses in Forestside. Across Hampshire, we cover Forestside. Our Portsmouth page covers surveys nearby.

Surveys in PO9 are booked the same way as anywhere else. We cover properties on Lodge Lane and Forestside. Other places close to Forestside include West Marden (1 mile north-east), Chalton (3 miles north-west), Blendworth (3 miles west), Buriton (5 miles north) and Nursted (5 miles north). Within a short drive, we also cover Gosport (13 miles south-west), Havant (5 miles south-west), Fareham (13 miles west), Horndean (4 miles west), Waterlooville (6 miles west) and Petersfield (7 miles north).

What’s near Forestside

We work in homes and buildings around Stansted Park and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Rowlands Castle station, about 2.2 miles south-west of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Clanfield Earthwork (4 miles north-west) and Havant War Memorial Hospital (5 miles south-west). For a walk, there is Compton Down and Kingley Vale National Nature Reserve.

Before and after the survey

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
  • Keep the report to compare against after any repair
  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Leave the roof to people with safe access

The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. That way you know how much weight to give each finding.

Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.

For landlords and managing agents

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the addresses.

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.

How the survey works

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In a small place like Forestside, access is typically the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming
  • Tell us about parking before the day
