Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Pett

Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. You also get a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day. There’s an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We survey flat roofs, loft conversions and insulated roof spaces, and people most frequently book us about moisture around outlets and upstands and leaks far from where the stain appears.

In a small place like Pett, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

How it works

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes between one and two hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Around Pett, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. We check the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

Before we arrive

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Check pets are kept safely away
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached

Questions from Pett

Is Pett in the area you cover?

Yes, Pett is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Pett?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?

It can help narrow down where water may be getting in. Water can travel under a covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help follow it. It’s used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings, as the camera alone can’t prove a leak.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Does the weather affect a thermal survey?

The results depend on the weather. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so the freeholder or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.

How do I arrange a thermal roof survey in Pett?

The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or send us an email. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll take it from there. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

How the survey changes by roof type

Loft insulation

From inside the loft, thermal imaging can show gaps in insulation and cold spots. We look where there is safe access.

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Problems where roof slopes and walls meet are often hidden. We combine a close visual check with the thermal images.

Checking the roof from ground level

It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Drones, thermal imaging and Pett roofs

Pett is within about 1 mile of the coast. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

For an older house near a landmark such as St Mary & St Peter, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

Pett is about 5 miles east of Hastings, in East Sussex. Pett is one of many places we visit across East Sussex. Across East Sussex, we cover Pett and the places around it. We also survey roofs in Maidstone.

Practical tips

Getting the most from a thermal roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Talk to us about the weather when booking
  • Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
  • Use the report as a baseline for later checks
  • Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing

If the images suggest moisture that can’t be confirmed, we’ll say what would help next, such as electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.

Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Insulation is often moved when people work in the roof space.

When you need someone else

Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • A formal energy assessment

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Pett?

Buyers sometimes want more than a visual look at the roof. The Premium Survey brings thermal imaging and a drone inspection where it applies, with a report the same day, which helps when timescales are tight.

We are often asked to look at:

  • Leaks that are hard to trace
  • Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
  • Damp patches with no obvious cause
  • Gaps in loft insulation

Lamb House lies about 4.7 miles north-east, so building around Pett goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

What to check before booking

  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • Their insurance cover
  • When you’ll get the report
  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
