Thermal Roof Survey in Portmore
We carry out thermal roof surveys in Portmore and the rest of Hampshire. Surveys run seven days a week.
- Gaps in loft insulation
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
Thermal roof survey in Portmore: what you get
Flat roofs over extensions, garages, flats and commercial buildings are where thermal imaging frequently helps most. Patterns can suggest where water is trapped under the covering. Pitched roofs with slates or tiles are frequently harder to read, because of the air space beneath, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. Common reasons to book are thin or uneven insulation in the roof and areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions, across flat roofs, loft conversions and insulated roof spaces.
Villages like Portmore often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

FAQs for Portmore
Do you carry out roof surveys in Portmore?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Is Portmore within the area you cover?
Yes. Portmore is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you when booking.
How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?
The camera records how the surface temperature varies. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat loss. Findings are checked with moisture readings.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or email us. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we’ll recommend the right survey. Surveys run on any day of the week.
How experienced are you?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years.
Useful tips for Portmore property owners
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
- Do not switch the heating off before the visit
We note the weather and surface conditions, and how they may have affected the results. It helps you judge how firm each finding is.
Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Early action keeps insulation from staying wet.
What this survey can’t tell you
Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- A formal energy assessment
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.
What we look at
- Ceilings below the roof
- Pitched roof slopes
- Insulated roof spaces
- Loft conversions
- Commercial roofs
- Flat roofs
How it works
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. The survey normally takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In a hamlet or village like Portmore, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

Advice
Can I check my roof myself?
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Why act early in Portmore
Without thermal imaging, the only way to see how far water has spread is frequently to open up the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. In a small place like Portmore, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Thermal roof surveys around Portmore
The coast is about 1 mile or less from Portmore, and coastal wind can be strong. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
For hotels and guest houses around Portmore, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest. Historic houses such as Beaulieu Palace House, about 4.5 miles north-east, show how far back building around Portmore goes. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Southlands School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
