Thermal roof surveys in Rew Street

About our thermal roof survey in Rew Street

Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. You also get a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. We are frequently asked to look into missing or slipped insulation and water getting in at parapets and stacks, across loft conversions, pitched roof slopes and flat roofs.

In a village or hamlet like Rew Street, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. You will see the good as well as the bad.

What a thermal roof survey doesn’t cover

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
  • The condition of timbers we can’t see
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs
  • Commercial roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions

What happens on the day

Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a small place like Rew Street, access is typically the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

Booking a survey

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Advice

For landlords and managing agents

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time.

What a survey costs

To price your survey, we check:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • How big the roof is
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium

A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both with VAT included. We confirm the price for the job before booking.

What we need to know

Some details help us point you to the right survey and price. When you contact us, let us know:

  • What made you get in touch
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • What kind of property and roof it is

If you’re buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Rew Street

The coast is about 2 miles or less from Rew Street. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. With Osborne House about 2.8 miles east, Rew Street sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you look after a building such as Northwood Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. The streets around a church such as All Saints' Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Why act early in Rew Street

Wet insulation under a flat roof doesn’t dry out on its own while the covering stays on. Over time, it insulates less well and can harm the deck. Finding the wet areas sooner keeps the work smaller. Older and listed buildings around Rew Street may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

What we look for on each type of roof

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Built-up felt and asphalt roofs can hide trapped water for a long time. The camera can give clues to where it’s sitting, given suitable conditions on the day.
