Thermal roof survey in Ringshall: what you get

Thermal imaging is a useful tool, but it has limits. Sun, shade, reflective surfaces and wind can all change what the camera shows. That is why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. The report is clear about what the images show and what they do not. If a finding cannot be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. We’re often asked to look into cold areas below the roof and water that travels before it shows, across pitched roof slopes, flat roofs and insulated roof spaces.

Some older homes in villages like Ringshall are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

When to book a survey in Ringshall

Unexplained damp is one of the main reasons people ask for thermal imaging. A leak may start well away from where the stain appears. Temperature patterns can help narrow down where to look.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Damp patches with no obvious cause
  • Damp around roof outlets and upstands
  • Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
  • Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys

For properties in and around Ringshall, we look at everything that’s safely in view and explain what we find.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • What insurance they carry

What a good roof survey covers

How the survey changes by roof type

Pitched slate and tile roofs

On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s happening underneath. We combine the images with an inspection from the loft where there’s safe access.

Loft insulation

Insulation frequently gets moved during work in the loft. The camera can show where it no longer covers the ceiling.

For landlords and managing agents

If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Tips that help

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:

  • Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
  • Move stored items away from the loft hatch
  • Keep the report to compare against after any repair
  • Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing

We note the weather and surface conditions, and how they may have affected the results. It helps you judge how firm each finding is.

Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water does not sit on the roof. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.

What a thermal roof survey doesn’t cover

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:

  • Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
  • A structural engineer’s assessment
  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What we check

  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes

What happens on the day

We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Rural addresses near Ringshall can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
  4. Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

Preparing for the visit

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Let us know where we can park nearby

Advice

Thermal roof surveys in Ringshall: local notes

Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

Ringshall: your questions answered

Will you come out to Ringshall?

Yes, Ringshall is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.

Is Ringshall in the area you cover?

Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Ringshall is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details.

Does someone need to be in?

That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details when booking.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest.

How much does a thermal roof survey cost?

It’s part of the Premium Survey, from £400. An in-person consultation and a follow-up 12 months later are included too. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.

What will the report tell me?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.
