Thermal roof survey in South Harewood

Flat roofs over extensions, garages, flats and commercial buildings are where thermal imaging often helps most. It can show patterns that point to trapped moisture under the membrane. On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can hide what’s below, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. We are frequently asked to look into areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions and possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering, across commercial roofs, pitched roof slopes and ceilings below the roof.

Somewhere as small as South Harewood, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in South Harewood

Does a conservation area affect roof work in South Harewood?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Will you come out to South Harewood?

Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.

What insurance do you have?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Does someone need to be in?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Will thermal imaging find my leak?

It is a useful tool for tracing leaks, but not the only one. What it shows depends on the weather and the roof. Where it can’t be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, like electronic leak detection.

Why get it checked now?

Without thermal imaging, the only way to see how far water has spread is often to open up the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. In a small place like South Harewood, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

What we are asked to look at in South Harewood

Unexplained damp is one of the main reasons people ask for thermal imaging. Water can travel under a roof covering or along timbers before it shows inside. Temperature patterns can help narrow down where to look.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Gaps in loft insulation
  • Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
  • Stains that keep coming back

Whatever the street in South Harewood, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Are they insured for the work?
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID

What a roof survey includes

What this survey can’t tell you

A survey is a careful look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:

  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
  • An energy rating for the building

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will suggest the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on:

  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

What we need to know

Some details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, let us know:

  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • When you need the report by
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine. To send them or to book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What you can safely check yourself

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

How it works

Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere as small as South Harewood, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We look at the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Keep pets in another room

How to book

Once you know what you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.

What a thermal roof survey looks like in South Harewood

Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

Anyone responsible for a site like Wherwell Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
