Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves often show up as temperature differences. The difference shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. If you’re worried about patches of heat loss across the roof and leaks that are hard to trace, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and flat roofs alike.

In a village or hamlet like Upper Wield, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Practical tips

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Leave the roof to people with safe access
  • Clear a path to the loft hatch before we arrive
  • Use the report as a baseline for later checks
  • Remember the conditions on the day affect the results

We note the weather and surface conditions, and how they may have affected the results. It helps you judge how firm each finding is.

Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof in suitable weather.

Honest limits

In fairness, a roof survey has limits:

  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
  • Proving moisture from the images alone

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What we check

  • Commercial roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Flat roofs
  • Loft conversions

Upper Wield: your questions answered

Will you come out to Upper Wield?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you cover Upper Wield?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies.

Can a thermal camera see water?

The camera doesn’t see water itself. Because wet insulation holds heat for longer, it can show as a different temperature, but we check each finding with moisture readings.

Does someone need to be in?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details when you book.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you’d like to know. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

What we do, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Somewhere as small as Upper Wield, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
  • Let us know where we can park nearby
  • Jot down any questions you want answered

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Upper Wield

A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. With Hall Place about 2.2 miles east, Upper Wield sits in an area with a long building history. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof.

Take an older house close to Church of St James: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Upper Wield

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.

Checking the roof from ground level

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • House, block, shop or office
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.
