Thermal imaging roof survey in West Stourmouth, Kent
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof around West Stourmouth, with a written report you can act on. Book a weekday or weekend visit.
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Cold areas below the roof
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
What we look for on each type of roof
Loft insulation
In the loft space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We look where there is safe access.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Water often gets in where roofs meet walls, parapets or valley gutters. The camera can help show damp around these junctions.
Thermal roof survey in West Stourmouth: what you get
Thermal imaging works best in the right conditions. It helps to have a sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air. Rain, a strong wind or heavy cloud can make the images less clear. We’ll discuss the weather with you when booking, and the report explains how the conditions on the day affected the results. We survey loft conversions, insulated roof spaces and flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are heat escaping through the roof and cold areas below the roof.
Villages like West Stourmouth often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. You will see the good as well as the bad.

For landlords and managing agents
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends, which helps when tenants work during the week.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.
What we cannot see
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Ceilings below the roof
- Insulated roof spaces
- Commercial roofs
- Flat roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Loft conversions
Common questions in West Stourmouth
Is my home in West Stourmouth listed or in a conservation area?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Is West Stourmouth within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.
Do you need a thermal roof survey in West Stourmouth?
After a long-running leak, insulation under a flat roof can stay wet. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. A thermal survey, checked with moisture readings, can give a much clearer picture.
We are often asked to look at:
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Water that travels before it shows
If you live in an older home near All Saints Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Will the report include photos?
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
Thermal roof surveys around West Stourmouth
West Stourmouth lies within about 5 miles of the sea. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Preston Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Can I check my roof myself?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
How it works
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a hamlet or village like West Stourmouth, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Preparing for the visit
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
