Flying and imaging in Whitchurch Hill
If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The wider area around Whitchurch Hill has a long history of building, with Basildon Park about 2 miles west. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
The streets around a church such as St John the Baptist are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. For site and facilities teams at buildings like The Oratory Preparatory School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

About our thermal roof survey in Whitchurch Hill
On a flat roof, wet insulation holds heat longer than dry insulation. So a wet patch can show as a warmer or cooler area on the camera. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, something you cannot usually tell from the surface. Moisture readings are then used to check what the camera suggests. We survey flat roofs, loft conversions and insulated roof spaces, and people most frequently book us about areas of a flat roof that may hold water and cold spots on ceilings under the roof.
Villages like Whitchurch Hill often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Why it is worth a survey now in Whitchurch Hill
For buyers, a thermal survey adds detail that a visual inspection cannot give. Finding hidden moisture before exchange gives you facts to raise with the seller. Older cottages and farmhouses around Whitchurch Hill can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we will tell you which fits.

What affects the price in Whitchurch Hill
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- Which survey package you book
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- The size of the roof
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.
Helping us price your survey
We’ll normally ask about:
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
We survey roofs on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.
Before and after the survey
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
- Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
- Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, so you can go through the images with us. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.
Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.
Common questions in Whitchurch Hill
Do you cover smaller places like Whitchurch Hill?
Yes, Whitchurch Hill is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
How do I find out if my home in Whitchurch Hill is listed?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. The survey is not an energy rating or a heat loss calculation, but the images show where improvements may help.
Does someone need to be in?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
How fast do I get the report?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email.
The survey, step by step
You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes about 1–2 hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Rural addresses near Whitchurch Hill can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

DIY checks: what’s safe
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in.
