Our roof survey service in RG8
Our roof surveys cover RG8 and the wider South East. Visits run on any day of the week. We’re insured for professional indemnity and public liability, and bring 20+ years’ experience. Each survey ends with a written report, emailed with photographs and recommendations. Whether it’s a house, a flat or a commercial building, the process is the same. When you’re ready to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We survey lead flashings, flat roofs and clay and concrete tiles, and people most frequently book us about cracked or blistered flat roof coverings and valley linings that have cracked or split.
The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there’s safe access. All told, expect between one and two hours at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
How our prices work
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.
What you get with us
- Over 5,000 surveys carried out
- An independent look at the roof
- Prices that include VAT
- Surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays
Getting a price
If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.

Homes and roofs across RG8
Across RG8, from Purley on Thames, Goring and Pangbourne outwards, roofs range from old slate and clay tile to modern concrete tiles and flat roofs. The usual weak points are fixings, flashings, chimneys and gutters.
Autumn and winter storms across the South East find any loose slate, tile or ridge. In RG8, as elsewhere, exposed details are where damage shows first.
Purley on Thames: Mapledurham House lies about 0.6 miles north-east, so building around Purley on Thames goes back a long way. On a period home nearby, the survey separates sound original work from tired later repairs. Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.
DIY checks: what’s safe
It is useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.
Landlord and commercial surveys in RG8
With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, ring 07833 053749 or email us with the addresses.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the survey around it.
Before and after the survey
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Look for debris in the garden after high winds
- Let us know about any leaks or stains you’ve seen
- Keep a record of damp patches and dates
- Do not climb onto the roof yourself
We email the report to you. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. Findings are explained in plain words, with recommendations.
Have gutters and valleys cleared regularly, particularly after autumn. Leave the clearing to a professional. Most overflow damage starts with a blocked gutter.
How we price roof surveys
We confirm the price for your roof before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- How big the roof is
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
What to tell us when you get in touch
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
- The address and postcode of the property
- Dates you are working to, like exchange
- The kind of building and roof involved
For a price for roof surveys in RG8, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. A few details about the property and the roof help us price the survey accurately.
Why act early?
If you’re planning to sell, a roof survey can help you prepare. You’ll know what a buyer’s survey might pick up, or at least know what to expect.
Before booking any surveyor
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- When you’ll get the report
RG8 questions
Do you go up on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. Much of the survey is done from ground level, upper windows and the roof space. On Premium, a drone is used where applicable.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the building owner or managing agent. Let us know about it when booking and we will explain what’s needed.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
What’s the best way to book?
Just phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.
Is your survey a structural engineer’s report?
No. We report on the roof’s condition, and Standard and Premium include structural checks. It is not a structural engineer’s report and doesn’t include calculations.
Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?
Yes, we can. We survey the parts of the roof you have access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.
Will you check the loft?
If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.
