Tips that help

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
  • Note where damp appears and after what weather
  • Remember the conditions on the day affect the results

After the visit, we put the thermal images, photos and moisture readings into one report. We explain what each image may mean, alongside what we recommend. With a Premium Survey, you get the report the same day.

Check that loft insulation is laid evenly and hasn’t been pushed aside. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.

Thermal roof survey in Whitehouse: what you get

Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where it applies, a structural analysis and a same-day report. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. You can phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. We survey flat roofs, commercial roofs and pitched roof slopes, and common reasons people get in touch are damp that repairs haven’t cured and cold areas below the roof.

Places like Whitehouse can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What you can safely check yourself

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Whitehouse questions

Is Whitehouse within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Whitehouse?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

How soon will I get the report?

Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, tell us when booking.

Does someone need to be in?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Does the weather affect a thermal survey?

Conditions on the day affect the results. It works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind. Rain, wind and heavy cloud can weaken the patterns, so we discuss the forecast when booking.

What insurance do you have?

We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

Roof by roof

GRP fibreglass roofs

GRP roofs are laid over timber boards, so trapped moisture can affect the deck. Thermal imaging can suggest where that may be happening.

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below often show. Reflections from shiny surfaces can affect readings, which we allow for.

When to book a survey in Whitehouse

On big commercial and residential flat roofs, thermal imaging helps owners plan. It can suggest which areas may be wet and which seem dry, so we know where to take moisture readings.

Typical things we are asked to look at include:

  • Heat escaping through the roof
  • Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
  • Ceilings that feel colder in places
  • Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys

If you run a business near Central Milton Keynes Shopping Centre, large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager.

What to check before booking

  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • How long the report takes to arrive

What to expect from a roof survey

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Whitehouse

The wider area around Whitehouse has a long history of building, with Linford Manor about 3.7 miles north-east. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If you look after a building like Whitehouse Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. For an older house near a landmark like Church of the Holy Cross, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Honest limits

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
  • A formal energy assessment
  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture

The survey, step by step

Photos are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Being in a smaller place like Whitehouse doesn’t change how the visit works: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Getting ready for the survey
