Thermal imaging roof survey in Wolverton, Hampshire
We carry out thermal roof surveys in Wolverton and the rest of Hampshire. Surveys run on any day of the week.
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
Thermal roof survey in Wolverton: what you get
A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp isn’t obvious. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and the camera can show patterns that help us follow it. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. Common reasons to book are possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and patches of heat loss across the roof, on commercial roofs, flat roofs and loft conversions.
Villages like Wolverton often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

For landlords and managing agents
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.

What else we do in Wolverton
Checking the roof from ground level
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
What this survey cannot tell you
A survey is a close look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:
- Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- Confirming water without moisture readings
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.
What we look at
- Flat roofs
- Ceilings below the roof
- Pitched roof slopes
- Insulated roof spaces
- Loft conversions
- Commercial roofs
The survey, step by step
We’ll ask a few questions first, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Around Wolverton, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before we arrive
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Check pets are kept safely away

Wolverton questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Wolverton?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is Wolverton within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Does the report include photos?
Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.
How experienced are you?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
What we look for on each type of roof
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
On felt and asphalt flat roofs, wet insulation can show as a temperature difference across the surface. Moisture readings are used to check them.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Many single-ply and EPDM roofs sit on insulation boards. Wet boards can show as temperature differences on the images.
Useful tips for Wolverton property owners
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Heat the home normally on the days before
Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, so you can go through the images with us. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.
Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.
Thermal roof surveys in Wolverton: local notes
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Whatever the street in Wolverton, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early. Take an older house close to Church of St Catherine: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
