Chimney Survey in Wadwick
Not sure what state the chimney stack is in? You can book a chimney survey in Wadwick and across Hampshire, with plain-English findings.
- Staining on walls around the chimney
- Flaunching that has broken away
- Spalled or crumbling bricks
Chimney survey in Wadwick: what you get
Each stack is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: the ground, nearby windows and higher points, and the loft space where it’s safe. With our Premium Survey, a drone inspection is included where it applies. If we cannot see part of the stack, the report makes that clear. Each defect is recorded with a photo and a plain description. We are often asked to look into flaunching that has broken away and lifted or split lead flashings, on brick chimney stacks, lead flashings and shared and party-wall stacks.
Older buildings in small places like Wadwick may be listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.
What you get is a clear record of the chimney stack on the day we saw it. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later.

FAQs for Wadwick
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Whitchurch (Hampshire) station?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. Just phone 07833 053749 or email us with the details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Is my home in Wadwick listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
What does a roof survey cost?
Prices start from £150, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Our stack is shared. Can you still survey it?
Yes. We check the parts we can see safely and the parts you can give us access to. Where a problem appears to be on next door’s side, we note it and you can raise it with them.
Will I get photos?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
What’s the best way to book?
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you’d like to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Do you look in the roof space?
If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.
Practical tips
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Never climb onto the roof to look at a chimney
- Make sure fixings on the stack are secure
- Glance at the stacks from the street now and then
- Have the flue swept and checked if you use the fire
If the stack is shared, you can pass the report to your neighbour. The photos show the problem and which side it’s on from the viewpoints we used.
Make sure fixings on the stack are sound and taken off if they’re no longer needed. Less load on the stack means less strain in wind.
What we do, step by step
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen. The survey usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, as part of a look at the roof around the stack. Rural addresses near Wadwick can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First you let us know about the chimneys, any damp on the chimney breasts and any worries.
- The stacks are looked at from ground level, from windows and from other safe vantage points.
- Every part we can see is checked: pots, cowls, flaunching, pointing, bricks and flashings.
- Inside, we look for damp on chimney breasts and in the loft where there’s safe access.
- We send a written report with photos, the defects found and what we recommend.
Getting ready for the survey
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Note where any stains or damp appear
Getting a price
If you are buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or email us whenever suits you.

When you need someone else
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Gas safety checks, which need a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Hidden damage within the stack
- The inside of the flue, which needs a sweep or flue specialist

Can I check my roof myself?
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Chimney surveys around Wadwick
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Whatever the covering, it is often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. Historic houses such as Highclere Castle, about 3.8 miles north, show how far back building in the area around Wadwick goes. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead.

Why get it checked now?
Loose pots and bricks on a stack are a safety concern. Finding them early means they can be dealt with before they come down by a roofer. Outbuildings and barns around Wadwick are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
