Your questions about drone roof surveys in Artington

Is Artington within the area you cover?

Yes. Artington is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Artington?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.

Will I get photos?

Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.

How many surveys have you done?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

Drone roof survey in Artington: what you get

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission isn’t given, we inspect by other means and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. Common reasons to book are lead work pulling away at abutments and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, across tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.

In a village or hamlet like Artington, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Artington?

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

People usually book a survey when they’ve noticed one of these:

  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters

If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Artington, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition.

Before you book anyone

  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • What experience they bring
  • Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
  • How long the report takes to arrive

What a good roof survey covers

What happens on the day

Photos are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a village or hamlet like Artington, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

What a survey costs

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both inc. VAT. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking.

Helping us price your survey

You do not need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to tell us:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know where you stand. Our price is from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Drone roof surveys in Artington: local notes

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help.

Take an older house close to Church of St Mary the Virgin: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. Take a building like Shalford Infant School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Before and after the survey

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:

  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photographs are included where we could fly, alongside the other checks in the package.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
