Independent drone roof surveys in Batt's Corner

Drone roof survey in Batt's Corner: what you get

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. Common reasons to book are worn lead at chimneys and walls and ridge pieces that have lifted, on large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs.

In a small place like Batt's Corner, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Batt's Corner

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Batt's Corner?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Batt's Corner?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

How long will you be at the property?

Time on site depends on the roof, but most surveys take an hour or two at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. The written report follows by email.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it does not include calculations. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

What does the report include?

A written report with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

How the survey changes by roof type

Valleys and parapet gutters

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. It is almost impossible to see from the ground, but a drone shows it clearly.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen.

Honest limits

It’s useful to know what a survey won’t do before booking:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

What we check

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs

Drones, thermal imaging and Batt's Corner roofs

Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

Historic houses such as Farnham Castle, about 4 miles north, show how far back building around Batt's Corner goes. For older roofs nearby, a look by drone or thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. The streets around a church such as The Church Of The Good Shepherd are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Batt's Corner is about 4 miles south-west of Farnham, in Surrey. If you are in Batt's Corner, booking works exactly as it does anywhere else: a call or an email, a price, then a date. We cover towns and villages across Surrey. We also survey roofs in Guildford.

What we do, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older roofs in small places like Batt's Corner can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Tell us about parking before the day

Why it’s worth a survey now in Batt's Corner

A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. In a place like Batt's Corner, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

What you can safely check yourself

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Tips from our surveys

Small things make a difference. Some pointers:

  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • Make sure there is room outside for the drone to take off

We email the report to you, with close-up photos from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it is something only an inside check will show. Check insulation does not block the airflow.
