Drone roof surveys in Beal's Green: local notes

Historic houses like Scotney Castle, about 5 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Beal's Green goes. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

The streets around a church such as Church of All Saints are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Marlborough House School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

How a drone roof survey works in Beal's Green

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. The photos go into a written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. If you are worried about cracked mortar along the ridge and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

In a village or hamlet like Beal's Green, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

Beal's Green questions

Is Beal's Green within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Are there drone restrictions around Beal's Green?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only if it is safe. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.

How soon will I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.

What do I do with the report?

You will receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • A structural engineer’s report

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs

Can I check my roof myself?

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

What happens if roof problems are left?

A drone record gives you a baseline. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can be seen safely and which survey you book.

Practical tips

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Make sure there is room outside for the drone to take off
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.

Do not block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Roof by roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. It is almost impossible to see from ground level, but it is plain to see from the air.

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. The drone covers the roof area by area.

What we do, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Cottages and farmhouses around Beal's Green frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
