Bramshaw Drone Roof Survey

- Lifted or split lead flashings
About our drone roof survey in Bramshaw
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. If a drone is not the right tool, we will say so. We are often asked to look into cracked mortar along the ridge and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings, on flat roofs on upper floors, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs.
Older buildings in small places like Bramshaw may be listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible.

Leave it or get it looked at?
It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photographs of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. That helps you put the work in order. In a place like Bramshaw, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Can I check my roof myself?
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
Questions from Bramshaw
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Bramshaw?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Is Bramshaw within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
What does a roof survey cost?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
What does the report include?
Written findings with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.
Are you insured?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
The survey, step by step
Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. Older roofs in small places like Bramshaw can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Jot down any questions you want answered

Advice
Practical tips
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year, and whether work has done its job.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.
Do you need a drone roof survey in Bramshaw?
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.
Common reasons to book include:
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Peter, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Before you book anyone
- Are they insured for the work?
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
Landlords, agents and block managers in Bramshaw
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
Flying and imaging in Bramshaw
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
Historic houses such as Landford Manor, about 2.3 miles north, show how far back building around Bramshaw goes. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.
