Drone roof survey in Chilmington Green

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. The photos go into a written report. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. We survey fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are slates or tiles shifted by high winds and vegetation in valleys and gutters.

Older buildings in small places like Chilmington Green may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Chilmington Green

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until water overflows inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Flashings that have come away
  • Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near County Square, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs

What a good roof survey covers

Chilmington Green: your questions answered

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Chilmington Green?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Chilmington Green?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.

What’s the best way to book?

Just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

How the survey works

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a hamlet or village like Chilmington Green, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

When you need someone else

Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs

Tips from our surveys

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. You cannot see it from the street at all, but a drone shows it clearly.

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we will tell you.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both inc. VAT. We confirm the price for the job before booking.
