Drone roof survey in Cottonworth
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. We will tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. If you are worried about wind damage high on the roof and plant growth and moss on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Some older homes in villages like Cottonworth are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
It isn’t only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

How the survey changes by roof type
Chimney stacks
Our drone check of a chimney is visual, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. We will say if a specialist is needed.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.
Tips from our surveys
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
Keep the photos with your property records. They give you something to compare against later, and they help if you sell.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
Questions from Cottonworth
Will you come out to Cottonworth?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Is my home in Cottonworth listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it doesn’t include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.
Can a drone see inside my loft?
No. It sees only the outer surfaces. Leaks, damp timbers and condensation frequently show first from inside, so we check the loft too where we can.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on any day of the week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
How long does a drone roof survey take?
Allow between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. We’ll give you an idea of timing when you book.

Drone roof surveys in Cottonworth: local notes
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St Mary the Less, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Whatever the street in Cottonworth, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early.

What we cannot see

- A flight where airspace permission is refused
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll suggest the right survey. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Fragile roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Large and complex roofs
How it works
The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. It normally takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In a hamlet or village like Cottonworth, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
