Cranbourne Drone Roof Survey
We carry out drone roof surveys in Cranbourne and the rest of Windsor and Maidenhead. We survey seven days a week.
- Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
Drone roof survey in Cranbourne
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see inside. Where there is safe access, we look in the loft space too, since that’s where leaks and condensation often show first. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters, and the problems we are asked to look at most are slates or tiles shifted by high winds and gaps where slates or tiles have gone.
Villages like Cranbourne frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Cranbourne?
Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Older slates and tiles break easily, and some sheet roofs are fragile. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.
It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
With St Leonard's Hill about 1.5 miles north-east, the area around Cranbourne has a long history. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
Questions to ask before you book

- How soon the report will arrive

FAQs for Cranbourne
Are there drone restrictions around Cranbourne?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
Is my home in Cranbourne listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it does not include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
How long is the visit?
Most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. We will confirm the timing when booking.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when booking.
What happens on the day
We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Older rural homes like those around Cranbourne can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.
Chimney stacks
Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.
Flying and imaging in Cranbourne
Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Peter, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Anyone responsible for a site like Cranbourne Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

What we cannot see
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
