When you need someone else
We only report what can safely be seen on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- A structural engineer’s report
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.

About our drone roof survey in Fulking
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it is not safe. If you’ve noticed ridge pieces that have lifted and vegetation in valleys and gutters, we can find out what’s behind it, on flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks alike.
Some older homes in villages like Fulking are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Fulking
Fulking is within about 5 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. The wider area around Fulking has a long history of building, with Portslade Manor about 3.3 miles south. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
Fulking is about 4 miles north-west of Brighton and Hove, in West Sussex. Surveys in Fulking work the same way as everywhere we cover: a close look at what can be seen safely, photographs and a clear written report. Fulking is one of the places in West Sussex where we work for drone roof surveys. There’s also a page for Brighton.
We survey roofs across BN5 for drone roof surveys and the streets around it. Neighbouring places we cover for drone roof surveys include Poynings (1 mile north-east), Hangleton (3 miles south), Castle Town (3 miles west), Portslade (3 miles south) and Kingston by Sea (4 miles south). Tips from our surveys
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Tell us the exact address as you book
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, especially in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
Do you need a drone roof survey in Fulking?
Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the surface area by area, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Flashings that have come away
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
For an older house near a landmark such as The Church of the Holy Trinity, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- Their track record with similar roofs
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Is VAT included in the price?

Should I look at the roof myself first?
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
Fulking questions
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Fulking?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Fulking?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Fulking?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included.
How long does the survey take?
Expect it to take about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.
Does someone need to be in?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on any day of the week. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Why get it checked now?
From ground level, you are guessing about most of a tall roof. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photographs. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. In a small place like Fulking, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

What we do, step by step
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take between one and two hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Older rural homes like those around Fulking can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
