Your questions about drone roof surveys in Castle Town
Do you cover smaller places like Castle Town?
Yes, Castle Town is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Castle Town?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Brighton City (Shoreham) Airport is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Does someone need to be in?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you as you book.
How quickly is the report sent?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run seven days a week. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.
Will you check the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
Drone roof survey in Castle Town: what you get
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack.
Villages like Castle Town often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for instance when you want to check whether anything has changed.

What we do, step by step
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. If you have questions on the day, just ask. In a hamlet or village like Castle Town, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Note where any stains or damp appear

Advice
When you need someone else
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Flights in high wind or heavy rain
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
Should I look at the roof myself first?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Castle Town
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. Older cottages and farmhouses around Castle Town can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside frequently shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.
