How a drone roof survey works in Greywell
Drone roof surveys are available in Greywell and throughout London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We survey chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and the problems we are asked to look at most are slates or tiles shifted by high winds and ponding and splits on a high flat roof.
In a village or hamlet like Greywell, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Greywell
How do I find out if my home in Greywell is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Is drone flying allowed in Greywell?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. RAF Odiham is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
Do you cover Greywell for drone roof surveys?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, Greywell included.
How long is the visit?
Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. We will confirm the timing when you book.
What will the report tell me?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
Tips from our surveys
Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
Flying and imaging in Greywell
Greywell is about 3 miles from RAF Odiham, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
Take an older house close to Church of St Mary the Virgin: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Anyone responsible for a site like Robert May's School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Greywell is about 6 miles east of Basingstoke, in Hampshire. Bookings from Greywell are handled just like any other: a call or an email, a price, then a date. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. Reading is in our area too.
All of RG29 is covered for drone roof surveys, from the main roads to the quietest streets. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on The Street, Hook Road and Dorchester Way or a nearby road, we can survey it. If you’re just outside Greywell, we cover Warnborough Green (1 mile north-east), North Warnborough (1 mile east), Up Nately (1 mile north-west), Nately Scures (1 mile north-west) and Hook Common (1 mile north). Within a short drive, we also cover Basingstoke (6 miles west), Farnborough (9 miles east), Fleet (6 miles east), Aldershot (9 miles east), Alton (8 miles south) and Yateley (8 miles north-east).

How the survey works
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. It normally takes between one and two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Older rural homes like those around Greywell can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before we arrive
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Find any records of previous roof work

Advice
What we cannot see
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- A structural engineer’s report
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
Why get it checked now?
Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Older cottages and farmhouses around Greywell can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.
