Drone roof survey in Hanger Hill: what you get

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there’s safe access, we look in the loft space too, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. If you’ve noticed ponding and splits on a high flat roof and flashings that have come away, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Flying in London takes more checking than most places: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every address in Hanger Hill is checked before any drone flight, and permission is never taken for granted.

Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Why get it checked now?

Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It helps when you plan ahead. In Hanger Hill, as in much of London, water from a roof defect can reach a neighbour’s home as easily as yours: a blocked parapet gutter or slipped slate can let water into the flat below or the house next door. Dealing with it early is far less disruptive.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Why us?

  • 5,000+ roofs surveyed
  • Drones and thermal imaging where applicable
  • More than 20 years surveying roofs
  • Insured for professional indemnity and public liability

How the survey works

On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from the ground, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where it applies. The survey usually takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so the back of the roof is often seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, let us know when booking.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before the survey

  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

What a drone roof survey looks like in Hanger Hill

In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

Take a building like Holy Family Catholic Primary School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near London Designer Outlet, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. Pitzhanger Manor, about 1.2 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Hanger Hill. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.

FAQs for Hanger Hill

Is my home in Hanger Hill listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Hanger Hill?

London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway when you book. That way the visit can be planned around it.

Does the report include photos?

Yes. Photographs are part of every report.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

How experienced are you?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

How long will you be at the property?

On site, it typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.

What if it’s windy or raining on the day?

We do not fly in high wind or heavy rain. The weather on the day decides whether the drone goes up. If we can’t fly, we’ll arrange another day.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Hanger Hill

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.

We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof, useful for planning maintenance.

Useful tips for Hanger Hill property owners

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Shut pets inside while we fly

We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

When you need someone else

We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll recommend the right survey. The full list of what we check.
